About: Characters on Trial is a creative courtroom simulation where participants defend or prosecute a fictional or literary character through structured legal arguments before a panel of judges. The event encourages legal reasoning, creativity, and performance skills.
Rules & Regulations
- Participation: Individual or Team
- Time Limit:
- Team: 8 minutes
- Individual: 5 minutes
- Language: English, Hindi, or bilingual
- Props: Permitted with prior approval from event coordinators
- Code of Conduct: Vulgarity, obscenity, hazardous items, or damage to property will lead to immediate disqualification
- Time Penalty: Exceeding the time limit will result in a 5% deduction from total marks
- Decision: Judges’ decision shall be final and binding
Rubrics
- Character Understanding (Knowledge of the character’s background, motives, and actions) – 10 Marks
- Argument & Justification (Logical defense or prosecution of the character’s actions) – 10 Marks
- Creativity & Interpretation (Original perspective and innovative presentation of the character) – 10 Marks
- Expression & Delivery (Confidence, voice modulation, clarity, and stage presence) – 10 Marks
- Total – 40 Marks
